Research proves that children learn more effectively through play, compared to the alternative of didactic teaching, which actually suppresses child-initiated learning and undermines young children’s self-confidence and motivation to learn. Studies show that play-based learning is a more effective platform for children’s long-term success in learning, or “school success.”
If you’d like to see the “Power Of Play” in action, please contact Hobson’s Director, Patrice Sullivan at (630) 420-8220. She’d be happy to give you a tour and explain Hobson’s philosophy. You’ll not only witness children learning from this approach, but you will appreciate that over time Hobson Parents pick up pointers and begin incorporating these effective techniques into their own parenting styles.
While there’s tremendous value in preschoolers enjoying spontaneous play, or “free play," teachers play an integral role in the children’s play-based learning. Before personally becoming involved with Hobson, some parents have had the impression that play-based learning is only “free play.” While child-initiated play is critical to the development of creativity and discovery, play-based learning is broader than that. It’s most effective when teachers use play to teach, intentionally guiding and extending children’s play. Hobson teachers are skilled at this.
As a result of Hobson’s dedication to the “Power of Play,” we’ve formed a new partnership with the DuPage Children’s Museum to support this important component of children’s lives and their long-term growth and well-being.
